Lord, Hear Our Prayer: Two Perspectives on Young Believers

man in his late fifties, a church elder, kneels to pray:

Dear Lord,
Forgive the youth and the so called "Christian Left" for twisting your gospel Lord! Forgive them for leaving the church because they don't want to hear messages about their own sin and don't like the truths presented. They can't seem to handle real truth any more. They are twisting the gospel and replacing it with a watered down message of tolerating everyone. Forgive them for minimizing sin, hell, repentance and transformation.Forgive them for losing touch with the Bible by cherry picking only verses they like. They have no real appreciation for Your Word and interpret how they want. Forgive them for listening to liberal media and other false prophets pushing a liberal agenda.  Forgive them for buying into theological falsehoods like abortion and homosexuality are just fine with you.
Forgive the them for dismissing old hymns that focus on God's transforming salvation, love, and mercy as they choose "Jesus is your boyfriend" songs. Forgive them for contributing to nonprofits that misuse the terms justice and oppressed by becoming more neutral and afraid to be confrontational. Forgive them for hijacking your doctrine Lord! What happened to the religious right? Please raise up a new generation of the religious right who didn't twist the gospel. Bring us new leaders like Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, and James Dobson who made a bold impact on America's families, churches, and government. Help the older generations teach the younger ones how to uphold the authoritative word of God for the sake of the future for this country! Please God teach the following generations how to be true followers of you.
Amen

A female Youth Pastor in her late twenties prays while going for a walk...

Dear God,
Thank you for change, transformation, raising up younger generations who are forward thinkers. Thank you that our youth and young adults are movers and shakers. Thank you that they aren't afraid to think differently, speak up and speak out for injustice in the world much like Jesus Christ did. Thank you that they seem to really understand what it means to put their faith into action. Thank you that they focus on the gospel whole heartedly by loving Jesus and loving others by putting their love into action. Thank you for their fiery hearts and passion for justice and mercy which will bring redemption and restoration to our world. Thank you for their spirit of unity as they long to be a group of people who love without limits much like Jesus encourages us to do. Thank you for their authentic questions as they dig deep into scripture trying to understand passages in the Bible that are used in harmful ways toward others. Thank you that they want to have an in-depth understanding of scripture by searching for a variety of interpretations as they wrestle with the complexities of the Bible. Thank you for a generation who won't just believe whatever so called authority tells them to but will research it for themselves in attempts to find the truth. Give us wisdom and and discernment Lord.  Thank you Lord for raising up this group of young people who relate to you in unique ways. Thank you for inspiring them to use their gifts and talents in ways that glorify you even though those ways are misunderstood by so many. Thank you Lord for teaching this generation that you are bigger than church, tradition, laws, liturgy, creeds, government, politics, media, and doctrine. Your ways cannot be fully grasped or comprehended, but you are most definitely working through those who have a progressive mindset which gives me great hope for our future world! Please continue to use this generation to love bigger and fuller with a genuine Christ-like love like never before! Please help our elders not to fear Lord. Help them not to fear change, and help them with their pride which often enables them to miss out on the good You are doing. Forgive them for their worry. Forgive them for their lack of confidence in us and for failing to see you at work in us. Give them courage to fuel our passion instead of snuffing it out. Thank you for using them to teach us to seek after You with all our hearts even if that looks a little different from how they sought after you. Help our elders not to have fear but to have faith that You are up to something truly magnificent.
Amen

Please go tell a young person how you see God at work in them.
